York Launch Service x PYXIS Strategic Partnership
SINGAPORE – The era of enduring harmful fumes and the loud chugging of diesel engines on marine craft may be coming to an end for workers traveling between mainland Singapore and anchored ships, thanks to an exciting new development from York Launch Service and PYXIS.
On March 27, local maritime start-up Pyxis launched a new, fully electric workboat named X Tron. This innovative vessel promises quieter, cleaner, and greener rides across the sea. With a length of 14.8 meters and the capacity to ferry 12 passengers and a crew of two, the X Tron is comparable in size to conventional diesel boats but offers significant environmental benefits.
Key Features and Benefits
- Catamaran Design: The two-hull structure provides greater stability.
- Range: Up to 50 nautical miles, sufficient for two round trips between Marina South Pier and surrounding anchorages.
- Charging: Utilizes a standard electric vehicle charging port, achieving full charge in about 2.5 hours with a high-speed 150 kW charger. A charger will be located at Marina South Pier as part of a trial with SP Mobility.
Environmental Impact
Pyxis claims that the X Tron and other vessels in its Pyxis One product line can save up to 120kg of carbon emissions per hour compared to diesel equivalents. Additionally, the more streamlined hull design of the X Tron makes it 20-30% more energy-efficient.
- Pyxis R: An electric river boat accommodating 50 passengers, designed for sightseeing tours on the Singapore River.
- Pyxis L: A luxurious variant of their electric vessels.

Broader Goals
Including the X Tron, Pyxis now has 13 vessels on order and aims to deliver all by 2026, with an ambitious goal to launch over 100 electric vessels across the Asia-Pacific region by 2030.
Industry and Government Collaboration
At the launch event, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Sustainability, Mr. Baey Yam Keng, highlighted the importance of collaboration and trust between the industry, workers, and the government in achieving a green transition in the maritime sector. He acknowledged Pyxis as a close partner of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in advancing electrification technology and building local capabilities.
York Launch Service is proud to be at the forefront of this green maritime revolution, working alongside innovative partners like Pyxis to create a cleaner and more sustainable future for the industry.
